Emmanuel Kaufman, KNOETZL partner, spoke at the XII International Conference of the Club Español del Arbitraje

Between 18 and 19 June 2017, the International Conference of the Club Español del Arbitraje took place in Madrid. This was the twelfth edition of the largest Spanish speaking event in Europe which gathered more than 400 arbitration practitioners and in-house counsel.

The overall topic of the conference was “Substantive law in arbitration. A hot topic issue”, which was discussed in five different panels. Emmanuel participated in the panel dealing with “The effects of corruption on contracts in arbitration” together with José María Alonso, Baker McKenzie (Madrid), Cristina Coto, CMS Albiñana & Suarez de Lezo (Madrid), Jonathan C. Hamilton, White & Case (Washington DC) and Mercedes Fernández, Jones Day (Madrid) acting as moderator.

Specifically, Emmanuel addressed the standards and burden of proof of corruption allegations and the impact of corruption on annulment, recognition, and enforcement proceedings.
